

Master's Training Program

Training will start mid-October​​

This Program is designed for competitive Master's athletes (30+ years) who want to improve their ski technique, increase speed and efficiency, and train for ski races. Participants are expected to be self-motivated and have an interest in training with other Master's athletes in a fun social group setting. All participants should be comfortable skiing all techniques in both classic and skating; athletes should also be able to ski all trails at Whitehorse Nordic Centre.

Objectives for this program are:​​

Build athletes to new levels of fitness.​

Build power and injury resilience.

Improve technical skiing ability.

Work on race strategy

Learn about fueling to improve race day results and recovery.

Details and schedule
​​​​
- Dryland (Early October 2025 )

1 session a week, bike or run with your coach (Monday 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm) OR on your own

A Gym workout session according to a plan made for you by your coach (on your own)

- On Snow (as soon as skiing is possible and safe until Feb 9, 2026)

1 Group ski with your coach (Monday 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm)

An intense ski session with a plan (on your own)

A Gym workout session according to a plan made for you by your coach (on your own)

2 weeks break over Christmas.​

The program will have 4 spots reserved for a person identifying as a woman. We will have these spots back open for everyone on the waitlist on September 10th if not taken.

Program registration is non-transferable, and program fees are not refundable except in cases of injury or illness, in which case there will be a $20 administration fee and a prorated refund based on the remaining time left in the program from the time the injury/illness is reported. A doctor's note must accompany requests for refunds for injury or illness.

Cold Weather Guidelines

Normal practice at or above -25C (Env. Canada Temp one hour before practice; not including wind Chill)

Practice shortened to 1.5 hours from -26C to -29C (Env. Canada Temp one hour before practice; not including wind Chill)

Practice shortened to a variable length (around 1h15) and not skiing (Race Office workout, CGC gym session, CGC track session,...) from -30C to -31.9C (Env. Canada Temp one hour before practice; not including wind Chill)

Cancelled at or below -32, or any other time that the wax room is closed. This will be communicated by email.

Coach judgment will be used if there are other factors such as high winds, humidity, precipitation; an email will go out if practice is being modified or cancelled.​​
